I am an avid learner and tinkerer who is always eager to take on the next challenge. I started seriously working with computers and programming while earning my master's degree, where I developed a simulation to model overland mobility. Working with geographic information systems (GIS) spurred me to further investigate data analytics because I saw so many applications for different techniques. I have since expanded my skills to broader data analytics and software development, and find myself spending lots of time developing machine learning applications.

I currently work as a data scientist for Amazon where I research and develop machine learning methods with a heavy focus on time series. I also have extensive experience building deep learning models for content analysis and retrieval such as image search, recommendation engines, and document classification. In addition, I do some independent development and have projects ranging from simple Scala programs to a more involved home facial recognition system. I really enjoy taking on challenging projects where I learn how to apply new beneficial research techniques and deliver results to others.

Interests

Aside from computers, programming, and data analysis, I enjoy cooking Mediterranean food, cross country mountain and road biking, traveling, and spending time with my wife and maniac dog. Since recently moving to the Pacific NW, we're enjoying exploring all of the parks and trying new outdoor activities like paddle boarding and fly fishing.
